To Our Valued Patients:
We are writing to inform you of an important change in our contact lens practice. Unlike other practices, we have, in the past, renewed or updated contact lens prescriptions during routine eye exams at no additional charge. This was the case with the exception of insurances such as Eyemed and VSP, where specific clauses in these contracts may have dealt with the provision of contact lens services at the eye exam. We have done so as a complementary benefit for our patients, as these services are not considered part of a routine eye examination.
Unfortunately, due to changes in insurances, reimbursements and health care in general, we will no longer be able to extend this complementary service. Beginning Jan. 1, 2017, there will be a charge for the time spent assessing the prescription and ocular health as it relates to contact lens wear, and the time spent counseling patients regarding changes in their health or contact prescription. This service to you will be billed out at a rate of $20-$45, depending on the complexity of the case and the time spent by our staff and doctor in this evaluation. This charge is in addition to the charge or co-payment for the routine exam. (Again, specific insurance policies may have different provisions for these charges, and these clauses would take precedent over our office policy). If additional rechecks are necessary, they too will be billed out at an additional charge. Patients who forget or are unable to wear their contacts to these appointments may need to be rescheduled for the additional services. If our ophthalmologists are seeing you, they may also request that you schedule with Dr. Nally for additional services, if they deem it necessary.
As in the past, we are deeply appreciative of your choosing Rochester Eye Associates for you eye care. We also thank you in advance for understanding the need to make these changes, so that we can continue to provide the high level of care that we desire to give and maintain, and that you deserve. If you have any questions regarding this policy please feel free to call our contact lens coordinator, Sandi, at 244-0332, option #5.
